MAKE way for the new kings.
Viridis Arcus of De La Salle University reigned supreme in the Collegiate Center of Esports (CCE) Season 4 University Clash after pulling off a sweet 3-0 sweep of TFX Nireus of Far Eastern University in the Grand Finals on Sunday, July 28 at the SMX Convention Center.
The team composed of Aaron “Aaronqt” Lim, Gab “Gabo” Sanchez, Ryu “laytutu” Godoy, Joshua Nathaniel “Yungch” Tating, Journey Nixon “Jinx” Ong, and Clement “Clem” Chua and coached by Kenneth Jiane “Kenji” Villa completed a perfect run in the CCE playoffs after also taking down Pylon Mittsu of Polytechnic University of the Philippines and dethroning defending champions LPU Pirate Esports in the semis on their way to the finale.
In the finals, however, Viridis Arcus faced some resistance from TFX Nireus particularly in Games 1 and 2 before showcasing a masterful showing in Game 3 to clinch the title and claim the lion’s share of the P100,000 pool in the tournament which is presented by Converge.
“Di sya naging perfect. Sobrang dami po naming mistakes and errors na di naman namin ginagawa on usual games so we’re taking it one at a time and we’re learning our mistakes from every game,” said VA EXP laner Jinx.
Yungch, formerly known as Aspect, starred for Viridis Arcus in the first two games, finishing with an impressive 13-2-4 line on the Roger in Game 1 before following it up with another stellar 13-3-4 line on the Ling in Game 2.
His maniac in the series opener even saved the game for the Taft side after a huge nine-minute blunder when four of their players got taken down while going for the base of the Morayta crew.
With the TFX Nireus rallying back, Yungch scored the four-man wipe to draw first blood, 25-13.
It was pretty much the same story in Game 2 as Viridis Arcus fended off a strong start from TFX with Yungch securing the Lord objective during a ninth minute clash before the La Salle crew scored a wipeout five minutes after to take a 20-15 triumph and a commanding 2-0 lead.
Sensing blood in the water, VA went for the clincher in Game 3, taking a quick 9-0 kill lead in the early game before closing out the series with a 16-2 win.
TFX Nireus, composed of Jordan Homer “Wardell” Eder, Justin “Wage” Wage, Paolo “Paozy” Sanchez, Benedict “ABLAA” Ablanida, Dash “PDash” Farin, and Kevin “Cure” Reyes, settled for the second place while three-time champions LPU Pirate Esports, bannered by Vincent “Kou” Furaque, Mark “Mark” Delos Reyes, Mac Jansie “Sey” Patino, Merlin “Merlin” Lintan, John Patrick “Yoshimitsu” Santos, Symon “Sui” Mallorca, and Arvin “Vinn” Pladano, finished third.
Ralph “Alas” Araz of LPU Pirate Esports was also inducted to the CCE Hall of Fame while Glez “Qwerty” Cruz was awarded as the best caster in this event which also has the support of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), sponsored by Skoop, Fantech, Bescost Printing, Kanlaon Cafe, and Hungry Chiefs Pastil, and partners Pylon Esports and The Walled City.
